WANTED NOW >   G.A.P. ~ SCUSD Teachers/Facilitator Interns

Overview of Program

Target area and/or target population

Over the past two years, G.A.P.  has provided violence intervention programming to high-need/high-risk, gang-involved youth at five middle and four high schools with the Sacramento City Unified School District. Services are targeted to the most difficult-to serve youth. Youth are identified through referrals made by school administrators and teachers, based on factors including frequency of disturbance within the classroom, frequency of disciplinary action, youth who are chronically absent, youth with a history of violent behavior at school, justice-involved youth, and/or youth who are known to be gang-involved.

We typically serve 7-15 youth per school at five middle and four high schools each year, for a total of 70-100 youth served each year. Boys and girls are students who participate. We provide services at each of the schools for an average of one day per week and 1-hour for each session per school.

The Intervention and Prevention Specialists or Facilitators will be under the supervision of the Campus Director, Will Young.

Training Interns – Facilitators and supporting staff

G.A.P. provides all new-hire contractors, staff, volunteers and interns with robust training on best practices in working with gang-involved and justice-involved youth, along with in-depth training on the evidence-based curriculum used: ARISE.

This includes training on trauma-informed care, ACE’s (adverse childhood experiences), cultural competency, the ARISE curriculum designed for at-risk youth, positive youth development theory, and G.A.P.’s proven approach to youth development services in the Sacramento Region.
